The hardest part of any lifestyle change in knowing your limits. Change takes time and effort, but be careful of going to extremes.
A healthy lifestyle is a balanced lifestyle. Eating healthy is a learned process, but going to extremes and only eating a certain amount of calories a day or binging can be an issue. Be watchful of anorexia and bulimia as a form of diet control. These are very dangerous and can cause great illness. Eating balanced nutrition is key to any lifestyle. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor, or go see a nutritionist, they are there to help guide you on a healthy eating lifestyle.
Just as eating needs to be balanced so does exercise. Being strong and healthy does not mean that you need to become a body builder or a long distance runner, unless that is what you choose to do. Going to extremes with exercise and caloric deficits can actually hinder fat loss because you don't have enough fuel to burn. Counting calories is not fun, but you need to know the approximate calorie intake you need in order to be healthy, so that if you want to loose weight, maintain weight or gain weight, you can tailor meals appropriately to your caloric needs. ( Runners tend to eat differently than body builders). Learning about different lifestyles and there benefits is very important on your journey to getting healthy.
Take time to do research. That is what nurses do, we research, we learn, we apply new knowledge to our work life, now we need to do that in our personal lives.
Achieving your goals is possible, you can get to where you want to be and stay there. It takes dedication, time, commitment, strength and knowing when to ask for help. Everyone needs someone to lean on, whether it is a family member, co-worker, or friend. Work together, encourage each other to succeed.
