Today is Monday and I decided that on Monday's we should talk about exercise. I Know, exercising can totally suck. At 40 years of age I can honestly say that some days feel like they will never end and I really don't feel like spending what little free time I have exercising. Working 12hr shifts, spending time with family, grocery shopping, cleaning the house and laundry, when is there time to exercise? I've looked into all kinds of different gym's, personal trainers, and home programs. These are my thoughts and experiences with each.
Gym's - They can be very intimidating. When you walk in you see men and women working out and they seem to know what they are doing. It's a meat market in some cases. Monthly fees, different classes, having a trainer - being pushed to sign up for more training sessions. I got frustrated because most gyms are not month to month, you have to sign a one year or two year contract that you can't seem to get out of. So I went to LA Fitness. I had a month to month membership and loved the cycle class they help but....time went on and I stopped going but I was still paying month to month because I thought I would go. I finally decided to put the membership on hold. Why pay for something you are not using. It is a waist of money which can be used elsewhere.
Personal Trainers - I loved having a personal trainer, it was a lot of fun and I really worked hard and looked foreword to my sessions. The only major problem I ever had was that I usually became really good friends with my trainer and we would start chatting instead of working out. Sigh..... (but I've got some great friends out of it and they still give me great tips)
Home programs - Working out at home can be very intense depending on what you like and the program you choose. I personally like really hard workouts. If I am not soaked with sweat at the end of a workout, to me it wasn't good enough or I didn't work hard enough. Many home workout programs, DVD's, and computer programs are a great start to learn what type of workouts are out there. I have many great DVD workout programs that I love to do.
But Do You Have to any of these types of things to start getting HEALTHY? YES AND NO. Start out slow. Go for a walk around the block, run or walk the stairs at work, go for a swim, dance or play with the kids.
JUST MOVE YOUR BODY!!!!
You only need to move for half an hour and after that half an hour your tired and hot and sweaty but you feel good, you have a smile on your face because you did it. You exercised and it didn't kill you. You made it through and all of a sudden You have energy! Where did that come from?
So this is my challenge to you. Exercise for 30min each day for one week. How do you feel after each workout?, how did you sleep?, how did you feel the next day?
I bet you slept better, felt better and even though you didn't want to exercise you did it anyway just to feel good about yourself and this small step to better health.
Good luck everyone. Talk to you tomorrow.
